Experts in Potable Water Treatment

Chemifloc has a 40-year history in potable water treatment in Ireland! Potable water processing involves a comprehensive approach to treating raw water and making it safe for human consumption. By employing various treatment processes, monitoring key parameters, and adhering to quality standards, water treatment plants ensure the provision of clean and safe drinking water to communities.

Water treatment is the process of removing impurities and contaminants from raw water to make it safe for drinking. It involves various physical, chemical, and biological processes to achieve the desired water quality standards.

Some commonly referenced parameters in potable water production:

  1. Trihalomethane (THM): Trihalomethanes are chemical compounds that can form when chlorine, used as a disinfectant, reacts with organic matter in water. They are a concern due to their potential health risks. Water treatment plants are required to monitor and control THM levels to comply with regulatory standards. Chemilabs (link) offers Ireland’s only dedicated service for rapid THM analysis.
  2. Trihalomethane Formation Potential (THMfp): THM formation potential is a measure of the potential of organic matter in water to form trihalomethanes when treated with disinfectants. By measuring THMfp, treatment plants can optimise disinfection processes and minimize THM formation.
  3. 3-log Removal (99.9%): 3-log removal indicates a treatment process that achieves a 99.9% reduction in the concentration of a specific contaminant. This level of removal is considered highly effective and is commonly used for critical contaminants to ensure safe drinking water.
  4. Manganese & Iron Removal: These are naturally occurring elements that can be present in water sources. High levels of both can cause aesthetic issues such as discolouration, undesirable taste, and can interfere with disinfection processes. Treatment processes, such as chemical oxidation or filtration, are employed to remove manganese from water.
  5. Chlorination: Chlorination is the process of adding chlorine or chlorine-based compounds to water for disinfection purposes. Chlorine kills harmful microorganisms and helps control the growth of pathogens in the water supply.
  6. Chloramination: Chloramination is an alternative disinfection method where chloramines (a combination of chlorine and ammonia) are used instead of free chlorine. Chloramines provide a longer-lasting disinfectant residual and reduce the formation of disinfection by-products like trihalomethanes.

OVER 40 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

Potable Water Assessment

Chemifloc can fully assess raw water from any natural source (through our accredited Chemilab facility) and design a chemical procedure to bring it to the highest EU potable water standards.

We frequently consult with leading civil and mechanical engineering firms to ensure that the most effective and prudent use of chemicals on the local potable water network is identified at the design stage and that sustainable treatment programs are in place at the commissioning stage. Our references include Irish Water, Veolia Group, Coffey Group, Murphy Group, and NI Water.

Our Full Product Range

Chemifloc offers an extensive range of chemical products in the following categories:

Inorganic
Coagulants

Our chemicals are added to water to form aluminium or iron precipitates. These absorb impurities in the water as they form, functioning to clean the water supply of contaminants.

Potable (Drinking)
Water Polyelectrolytes

Potable polyelectrolytes are chemical flocculants used in the conditioning/ thickening of the sludge line in potable drinking water treatment. They help floc formation and removal.

Wastewater
Polyelectrolytes

Polyelectrolytes are chemical flocculants used in the conditioning/ thickening of the sludge line in wastewater treatment.

General
Chemicals

Chemifloc provide a wide range of general chemical products, including aluminium sulphate, ferric sulphate, sodium hypochlorite and fluoride.
